Zohran Mamdani vs. “moderate” Democrats:
The abysmal failure of the DNC during last night’s NYC Democratic Mayoral primary begs the question, “What do Liberal Zionists believe in?”

On Tuesday, June 24th, 2025, a shocking upset occurred in the New York City mayoral race as State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani claimed victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Mr. Cuomo, one of two males among five total successors to former New York Governor Mario Cuomo’s (1983-1994) prominent political, media, and legal legacy, conceded defeat in the Democratic primary around 10:30 p.m.
As of Wednesday evening, with 93% of the city-wide votes counted, Assemblyman Mamdani was leading with 43.5%, while Cuomo had 36.4%. New York City is experimenting with a “ranked choice” voting system, so the final results of the Democratic primary will not be known until Tuesday, January 1st.

Nevertheless, Andrew Cuomo conceded Tuesday night following Zohran Mamdani’s strong performance in the initial iteration of multiple voting rounds over the upcoming week.
In a “ranked choice” system, voters rank the candidates according to preference on their ballots, which are redistributed to their subsequent choices in later rounds. Typically, if no candidate secures more than 50% of the votes in the first round of ranked-choice voting, the ranked-choice computer analysis proceeds through successive rounds until a winner is determined.
Yet, Mr. Mamdani’s statistical lead over Cuomo was sufficient in the first round that the former New York Governor called the young, dynamic Assemblyman to concede.

The 2025 New York City Democratic Party mayoral primary garnered significant attention from American and international media for multiple reasons.
In November 2024, Donald Trump and the national Republican Party (GOP) routed the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in the national election, taking control of the White House, the US Senate, and retaining control of the House of Representatives. The passive reaction from congressional Democrats to the aggressively destructive push by President Trump, billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and the GOP to “deconstruct the administrative state” over the past 150+ days has greatly angered and frustrated the DNC’s liberal voting base.
Additionally, former Governor Andrew Cuomo, a politician who is very unpopular and resigned in disgrace in 2021 due to credible sexual harassment and assault allegations from multiple women, still garnered significant backing and millions of dollars in financing from DNC officials and politicians.

Despite the sexual misconduct allegations and a national scandal involving the former governor’s role in the deaths of multiple nursing home residents during the 2020-2021 COVID-19 pandemic, Cuomo received strong endorsements from former President Bill Clinton, Congressman and former House Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC), Congressman George Latimer (D-NY), Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY), and Congressman Ritchie Torres (D-NY)–among others.
What is notable about the few names we are mentioning here, among many other prominent politicians and media pundits who endorsed Cuomo, is that all of them are among the neo-liberal establishment Democrats in Congress who support Israel’s current genocidal acts in Gaza. This is before we address Israel’s ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and military assaults on Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
Moreover, the politicians we have highlighted are among the most prominent national Democrats associated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Representative Torres is one of the most recognizable pro-Israel, AIPAC-funded politicians in the country, regardless of party affiliation.
AIPAC also played a central role in Congressman George Latimer’s Democratic party primary victory over pro-Palestinian former New York Congressman Jamal Bowman exactly one year ago.
Furthermore, nominally “progressive” and liberal organizations and individuals openly campaigned and messaged against Zohran Mamdani, featuring media talking points that his pro-Palestinian rhetoric and advocacy make him anti-Semitic.
For instance, Zioness, a political action committee (PAC) that advertises as a “multiracial coalition of Jewish activists and allies who are unabashedly progressive and unapologetically Zionist,” instructed its members and followers not to rank either Zohran Mamdani or Brad Lander in the New York City mayoral primary.
Among the reasons Zioness gave for not supporting Messrs. Mamdani or Lander were that these two NY politicians “strongly oppose our values and exploit social justice movements to launder, normalize, and perpetuate anti-Jewish animus with language that has been used to justify violence against Jews.”

If groups like Zioness consider themselves “progressive” and assert they work toward social, racial, economic, and gender equality in America, yet strongly oppose Mamdani, Lander, and other well-known progressives, what are their actual values?
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander is one of the original co-founders of the nonprofit organization, Jews for Racial and Economic Justice. Zioness categorizes Jews for Racial and Economic Justice as a “radical and extraordinarily divisive group.”
Zioness must please explain in detail exactly how advocating for racial and economic justice is somehow “radical” and “divisive.” Furthermore, Zioness consistently advocates for increased military funding for Israel, categorizing the sieges of Gaza, the West Bank, and across the other various Arab and Persian countries in the Middle East as a multi-front war for “the future of Western civilization.”
Although Zioness considers itself “progressive,” you might infer that the group does not regard Arabs, Persians, or certain other minority groups as deserving of human rights, civil liberties, and economic justice.

“Tonight was not our night,” Cuomo lamented during Tuesday night’s concession speech.
“Tonight was Assemblyman Mamdani’s night, and he put together a great campaign, and he touched young people and inspired them and moved them and got them to come out and vote, and he really ran a highly impactful campaign,” Cuomo continued.
Andrew Cuomo’s high negative rating in New York State is indicative of a recent Quinnipiac University poll published this month, which revealed an abysmally low 21% approval rating for Democrats in Congress, the lowest point since 2009.
Similarly, a CNN/SSRS poll showed the party’s favorability at just 29%, marking a record low since 1992.
Do not expect these terrible numbers, Mr. Mamdani’s ass-kicking of Mr. Cuomo, and widespread dissatisfaction among their voting base to change the DNC’s slavish financial fealty toward AIPAC or the ineffective political messaging and strategies coming from the Congressional Democratic leadership.
